I am the boss. I did get a tie one year from some of the women that had worked for me, I have not seen anything since then. Most of my employees whine and cry and complain about the workplace. Even when I had bought them doughnuts they complained about what kind I got. I made them ham and bean soup and they complained about the type of soup. Some people can be so ungratful.

Yes, I contribute to the "fund." But the boss gives each of us a present also. It's nice.

No, unless his/she is your friend or relative. You only buy your boss a present if you want something, or it will atleast seem that way, it's definetly kissing up.

Well, I think it is a matter of personal choice. It depends on the relationship. etc. If you want to buy them a token gift, but feel strange presenting one just from you, suggest to co-workers you would like to pitch in and get one combo gift from everyone.

Yes we buy we always used to use our own money but this year I got clever when I go and buy groceries for the office I slip the gift in the grocery list! In actual he pays for his own gift!

Luckily he doesn't see the slips or ask for it I just file it!

Well, that entirely depends on your relationship with your boss...if you dislike him, then buying him a gift would be sucking up, but if you get along well, then it wouldn't be.

I have to contribute, and I think they expect way too much. I tend to think it is kissing up when it is over $1,000. Especially when the worker's income is substantially less!
