I would have thought that a blood test would show a positive result before the period is due.

Most doctors won't let you do a blood test until after you miss your period. My clinic won't do a blood test unless its 2 weeks after your missed period or you've had a positive home urine test. It could be positive the first day of your missed period, but it could still be too early too. Best to wait at least a week after the missed period, then do a blood test.

4 days, but it's still recommended that you wait until after your period. Also, most doctors want you to have taken a urine test before giving you a blood test.

Blood test preg is the best one to confirm preg in early stages. You can take it on the day your period is due or as soon as you like after the due date

Usually it should be around or on the date of the missed period, because by then there should be enough hormone in your blood to determine whether or not your pregnant.
