I know the situation is unusual in the first place, but it seems a liitle weird to get him a ring. Is there something else creative that I can do to show my love and commitment?

why can't anyone ever just answer the question I ask on yahoo answers?? I don't care if you think it's backwards. I have already heard him talk about this situation and I know he thinks it's wonderful for a woman to do such a thing. All I would like is some ideas for how to make the moment special. Thank you.

I'd wait for him to pop the question, personally.

My mom asked my dad to marry her about 45 years ago. IT's not that new of a concept. I really don't get why so many people are telling you not to do it...
I think there are lots of ways that show your love and commitment. If you are going to do this, maybe a nice watch, and have it engraved with some quote about it being a way to keep track of the rest of your lives together or something like that.
That said, I've always thought that a man giving a woman an engagement ring on Christmas or her birthday is kind of a cheap way of doing things. It shouldn't be a way out of giving a sort of expected present. It ought to be a surprise.
I think New Year's Eve would be more romantic, but that's me.
You do whatever feels right to you. You know you and your honey, but before you pop the question, make sure you know what the answer will be, or youre going to ruin your holidays.
Good luck.

Don't worry about the ring, you guys can pick them out together, it would be nice. Main thing is to be extra creative in the way you propose since this is not your usual proposal. The way you propose will should exceed the need for a ring or any other token of love. Heck I think the fact that YOU are popping the question is a good enough "token" of your love if you ask me.

It should be the other way around. I know, its liberating to ask the man these days but seriously what is he going to think? Think of his reaction first. And I don't think there is such a thing to give a man a ring or some thing when you propose yourself, other then presenting your love to him, i think thats all you need.

Proposing would be what shows your love and commitment. The ring and the expensive wedding and all that other stuff should not be what shows love and should never be what is important.

No. If he said yes to your proposal, he should go get you an engagement ring.

A woman proposes to a boy. A man proposes to a woman. Think about it.

It seems a little weird to propose to a man.

I PROPOSED TO MY BOYFRIEND. WE ARE GETTING MARRIED NEXT MONTH IN FACT. I DID NOT GIVE HIM A RING. HE IS FRENCH AND I ONLY SPEAK ENGLISH. I ASKED HIM HOW I WOULD ASK HIS MOTHER PERMISSION FOR ME TO MARRY HIM IN FRENCH AND WHEN I ASKED HIM HE SAID YES. I THINK THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO JUST TELL HIM HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT HIM.
P.S. MY FIANCE STILL TEASES ME THAT BECAUSE I ASKED HIM TO MARRY ME.....HE SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A DIAMOND INSTEAD OF ME.
