What is the software to be used for transferring files stored in audio cassettes to CD? From where can we download that software free?

I use Magix as well, but the free one you want is Audacity from download.com. There is (under construction) a website which helps to explain how to do this: http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/DIY/how_to.htm
The section explaining how to use Audacity is not yet complete, but the set-up/connection of the components is nicely illustrated
