That's not a philosophy. Wtf.

I mean, that's a shady way of rationalizing what goes on in prison-- which at the worst institutions is organized gang life, compelling individuals to act in solidarity or get fu'cked, It's a brutal nightmare. And it exists because the civilian population doesn't care what happens to prisoners. We enjoy their misfortune, that's the point of the prison anyway.

So yeah, it's a rationalization of the inhumane treatment (basically neglect) of people locked up. But it's more than that.. it's another layer of deterrence on the civilian population. Crime, by virtue of the prison conditions, is COMPLETELY unpalatable to a rational person. It used to be that prisons existed to inter the criminal and exonerate the judge and jury from guilt in the act of torture or capital punishment-- today, we have reverted to a joyous love of torture.

We've gone beyond guilt in this thing. We accept violence and the need to not only threaten but produce a living hell on earth to give substance to our laws. It's very backward and racist and political and etc., but if you ask me, despite all the bad reasoning for it, it works.

well the way my proffessor explained it to me was this. The prisoners do not hurt other prisonerst just bc they feel the guy was wrong in doing what he did they do it bc they need to be the Toughest guy take manson for instance if a guy in prison killed or injured him serverly he would of been the biggest bad guy in the joint and he would get A WHOLE lot of respect bc he did that. No one would mess with him. That is why they fight like they do in prisons and that is why they injure so many people in there it is all about respect and status. If you have no status then you are at the bottom of the food chain so to speak. If you are known as a squaler then you are even lower then the guy who has no status who just got there. They hurt the squalers even worse in some cases the guards have to put them in a whole nother part of the prison away from the regual prisoners just to protect those guys.

i can explain it from an outsiders opion who is not in the prison lets say you are on jury and you hear that he killed a child and the babys mother in cold blood and you heard the evediance and well even before you hear any of the evidence some people may already have there desion made bc they feel he deserves death even if the evidence has no clear way of saying yes or no someone might just want just deseves do die just because that jurer thinks he desverse it. For all he/she knows he could of been just at the wrong place and discovered the body or someone could of easly if they wanted to to frame that particular guy/women who is being charged but just because someone thinks he/she deverse his/her just deserts they vote to send him/her to prison that is anthor way it can effect the just deserts philosphy in prisons
