Some public pools will require you wear a cap so that your hair doesn't clog up the pool filters.
Some people like to wear caps in order to try and not get chlorine on their hair. Some like wearing caps because it's more comfortable to swim with a cap.

In short - unless the pool requires you to wear a cap, it's up to you if you wear it or not.

It is not required in some Pools. It is best to wear a swim cap if you are going to get your hair wet, for the protection of your hair from the chlorine, and for the protection of the filters. If you are in the pool for aerobic exercises, and will not be getting your hair wet, it is acceptable to wear a sun protection hat and sunglasses to protect your eyes from the glare.

it is the pratical thing to do so that your hair does not slow you down and so that you will not have to work as hard. if your hair is just floating around were ever you are swimming you have more weight behind you then that means you have to work twice as hard.i would recommend the lycra swim caps because they go on easily and do not hurt when they are coming off your head, and they are made for long hair
