why not copyright for t-shirt sayings??

I think I've got some really good ones; but I don't think I want to put them out there and let someone else start printing them as well because I have no copyright rights. Is there no way I can protect my intellectual property??

You can copyright your shirts, but not many are deterred by copyright when it comes to fashion, there are many bootleggers of style. Look at all the fake purses and such. A catch phrase is very hard to copyright and will take more resources to copyright then what you will make. It is hard to start a business nowadays because of these, maybe you should sell your ideas?
