Well it depends....I am studying management so professors wanted it to be concentrated on a management point of view...
But I hate management...
I should say about reasons...are the base reason for past conflicts the same as present? I should try to make some concerning about diplomacy and globalization such trying to answer: As many countries barriers has vanished due to globalization, does it has decreased the total amount of conflicts? Does transnational organization such as UN has become an advance in building a world more diplomacy centered?
Writing about that questions could fill more than 100 pages....

The best one today is the war of 1812 and the Iraq war. Napoleon’s spies said the French would be welcomed as liberators from the Czar. There is a new book on the adventures of Teddy Roosevelt and McKinley that relates to Iraq. Find an online data base, OCLC, UMI, EBSCO, and put in 1812 and Iraq or McKinley and Iraq or Napoleon and Iraq and you should get your sources. Then it is just “Here is my paper topic, here is what they said (make sure you cite everything) and here is what I think”. And do the bibliography right and don’t plagiarize. You could go for Pickets charge in the civil war and the first gulf war and relate that to Alexander if you are a grad student at the War College.

Depdns on what subject but you can write about generation gaps, education (the way history is taught) or if you want to be really current you can write about the effect of the past on the present situation in the Middle East or Asia.

Read something about the past...what they have before...their practices...their food...their way of life...their kind of government...and whatever that is related to the past...then...try to compare it to what we are having and doing at present. How the past related practices comes in conflict with the present ones...or vice- versa. Good luck!
