What do physicians do that a physician can not do. I going to go to college to become a physician assistant, but then was thinking that I may as well just do the physician program if there was not that much of a difference.

I do know that a physician goes through a lot more school and gets paid very well. BUT at the same time a physicians assistant does not have to be in school well into their 30's, they still make a very excellent paycheck AND they don't have to deal with all of the lawsuits that physicians have to deal with. Your best bet is to be a PA. Good luck!

A physician goes to 3 to 4 years of med school AFTER college, then has a year of internship,THEN 3 or 4 years of residency in his/her field. THEN he/she can enter private practice and work 10 or more years to pay back studetnt loans. THEN he/she can start making a LOT more money than a physicians assistant will ever make. Are you in a 2 yr. or 4 yr. program? Would be a good idea to talk to some who are working in that field now. Good Luck Also, NO, they absolutely cannot be called Dr. They do not have a medical degree or doctoral degree of any kind. I am an R. N. and have spent over 30 years working with physicians and physicians assistants.

A physician has had to have a whole lot more education but quite frankly I had a physician assistant for several years that I thought was much more knowledgeable then my doctor. I used to ask for him instead of the regular doctor. He loved his job and consequently I think he worked overtime learning as much or more then the doctor. Probally a big difference in his wage earnings and that would be a bummer because he was brilliant.

Physician is the full fledged md

PA works under a physician and can also dispense some medication - has limited powers of an MD

Physicians Assistants have slightly less residency and school but they can be called doctor and they can write prescriptions, however they have to have a medical doctor sign off on everything they do.
