I use Stockwiz for French stocks and end-of-day trading. It's free. It comes with a stock screener and a rule wizard. I don't use these any more as Stockwiz is completely programmable, and I programmed all my screens and rules. It also means one can backtest just about every system and every selection. The only drawback is that the programming language is somewhat primitive.
But it's free and nowadays I can do everything I want with it.

Caveat:
- You still need a service to get your daily stockquotes and the fundamental stock information, which is most likely *not* free

I don't know about software, but barchart.com has nice sector information when you hit the 'sectors' tab. It's all free. When you see the list of sectors, arranged by return, you can click one and see the stocks listed. I love it. Check it out.

Why buy software when you have it for free?
