i think you need to factor

x^2-2x + 26 = 0
(x^2-2x+1) + 25 =0
(x-1)^2 + 25 =0
x = 1 +/- 5i is the solution

or expression is (x-1+5i)(x-1-5i) as factor

Do you mean x² - 2x + 26 = 0?

If so the solutions are found by eithe completing the square or using the formula

I will use the completing the square method

x² - 2x + 26 = 0
So x² - 2x = -26
So x² - 2x + 1 = -25
So (x - 1)² = -25
So x - 1 = ±√(-25) (This is not a real solution but it is still a solution as it will work in the quadratic equation
So x = 1 ± √(-25)
= 1 ± 5√(-1)
This is called a complex number and if √(-1) is given the symbol i then:
x = 1 + 5i and 1 - 5i

Note that this works because sum of roots = 2
and product of roots = 1 - 25i² (if i = √(-1) then i² = -1)
= 1 - 25*(-1)
= 26

And as any quadratic can be expresed as:
x² - (sum of roots)x + product of roots = 0
this one will be x² - 2x + 26 = 0

x^2 - 2x + 26.
Am I supposed to factorise this or does this expression equal zero. I'll factorise it first. (Even if it did equal zero, I would have to factorise it)

x^2 - 2x + 26 = (x^2 - 2x + 1) + 25
= (x^2 - x - x + 1) + 25
= [x(x-1) -1(x-1)] + 25
= (x - 1)(x - 1) + 25
The factorisation has ended. Assuming that the expression equals zero.
(x - 1)(x - 1) + 25 = 0
(x - 1)(x - 1) = -25
(x - 1)^2 = -25
x - 1 = sqrt(-25)
Square root of negative numbers are imaginary, so the solution is:
x = 1 + (or) - 5i

First i dont quite understand what ur question means. but x2-2x+26=(x-1)2+25>=25. because (x-1)2>=0.
is my answer of any help to u? i hope so:)

x^2-2x+26 I assume you mean =0
x=(2+/-sqrt(4-4*26))/2
x=1+/-(1/2)sqrt(-100)
x=1+/-5 i

the values of x will be 6.196 and -4.196 respectively......
mostly negative values are not considered...
hence the ans is x= 6.196
