How does it work, or how do they figure up the amount of child support the father's fixed amount? What if the mother is remarried, the Hubby works and she has had another child with new hubby and chooses to stay at home instead of returning to work? Does this affect the amount the father pays even though the new hubby provides support and insurance? Also the father has not seen the child in over three years, and no attemps at contact AT ALL in that time. How is this handled???

Child support is only based on the incomes of the parents, not step-parents or grandparents or neighbors.

Here in Florida it basically depends on how much each parent makes. They calculate the total income of both parents and determine what percentage of their income goes to the child. If they have equal incomes they are each responsible for 50%. If he makes $15.00/hr and she makes $7.50 then he pays 66.67% and she's responsible for 33.33%.

Here's a site that has calculators for each state. http://www.divorcelawinfo.com/states.htm

If the people can't work it out about child support, the courts would intervene and they would go based on the man's income and how many children he has, it shouldn't matter if she's remarried or not and have children with someone else or she works or not and if her new hubby can support them or not. The man has a child or children with a woman, he would and should pay child support no matter what, and if he doesn't do it willingly, they could and will garnish your wages and make sure you have a job to keep paying until the child's 18 or they will go to jail and they go by how much a guy makes and how much he is able to pay each month. Nothing else should matter!

Do you really NEED the support. I mean, are you really hurting for the money? If you do, then you need to contact your child support office. There is no stead fast rule as to how they calculate the amount. If the mother is not working, but is married, they will consider the amount the step-father is making.
I you don't NEED the money....I say let it go. If the child is not old enough to know the father, then there is no reason to push the issue. The child is probably better off only knowing the family it has. Otherwise it is up to the parents.

That is your child. You will be required to pay some support and it is determined by your income, how much you will need to survive. Although, she is remarried-that is still your child and legally he doesn't have to take care of the child unless you were not in the picture at all. But you can be absent, she can file for support and you can owe the system. Now it is starting to be a felony in some states, if you owe a certain amount. But guys get locked up over child support all the time.
