Just like roofing, I figure labor is the most expensive component. I figure I might as well spend more for good/ excellent quality gas HWH than one that may last me 5 yrs. The current one, which is losing steam is over 13 yrs old. I'm willing to pay for quality, but of course only if it makes economic sense (e.g. long-life for extra expense).

Thanks very much!

From personal experience, and research Bradford White makes a top class water heater. And unlike some companies even their lower end models are excellent. So a top end is a solid, long lasting, energy saver. Check www.bradfordwhite.com The one we currently have had a 5 yr warrantee, its about 18yrs old. I've just bought a new house and it needs a new WH. Did some new research and yep BW still builds them well, actually improved over the old one. Uses foam insulation now. And where some companies use aluminum anodes because there cheaper. BW still uses magnesium. Hope this helps.

Why don't you go to "Home Depot" and ask to see the newer "quick recovery" units, they're small, economical, have a life expectancy of twenty years or more, and will fit almost anywhere, against a wall. Or, any good reasonably priced brand name. Look for warranty status.
