Did the writer of the origin add something to her character that could have been left out? Her plane is invisible but you can still see her when she's flying it. Maybe it would have been better to give her the power to fly or not at all.

The whole concept of her plane is that it was supposed to be RADAR-invisible, this was way before 'stealth' technology was invented in the US. The idea was that nobody from Man's world could follow her back to Paradise Island and conquer the Amazons. Everybody always seems to misunderstand this one!

And, from what I have heard recently, they HAVE given her the actual ability to fly, not just glide on the wind. This eliminates not only the plane but the confusion surrounding it.

Wonder Woman is an Amazon (like Xena), and not a mutant nor a goddess. Therefore, though strong and skillful, she's still very limited by the laws of physics. That's why she needs a plane to fly and why she can't turn invisible. Remember Hulk can't fly either, he can just jump very, very far.

Around in World War II, Wonder Woman's plane is much more technologically advanced than allied planes at the time. So it needs to be invisible not to be confused with enemy aircraft and not to be too easily spotted by the enemy.

also, being around in world war two means some of her enemies have air power, bombs, missiles... as a mere mortal she needs something to catch them.

The added benefit of the plane being invisible means she doesn't have to paint it. I wonder how come things that fall on it like bird poo and dust don't show up though. Perhaps the material it's made of is so slick that nothing sticks.

Some versions of Wonder Woman could fly at will without the plane, although the most popular one had the invisible jet. I think that the creator (remember, this was decades ago) just didn't think about the possibility of Wonder Woman being invisible while flying her jet - think about it, how else were planes and other superheroes supposed to keep from flying into her if they couldn't see her?

Well the INVISIBLE JET was quite convenient. The reason you couldnt see the jet but you were able to see WONDER WOMAN in it, was to show the viewer or readers that she was actually in it. I dont know why the writers allowed her to have one though since she can fly. She can fly at the speed of sub light. In the original tv series which was aired in 1976 to 1978 or 1979 she had the jet because they did not have the budget available to allow them to show ms. Lynda carter flying, which makes sense since the computer graphics and all the cute little technology that movies and things made nowadays are able to have did not exist back then. Many people do not know this but, when wonder woman was first created as comic back in the 1940's, it was because of the male dominated essence of super heros. There was superman and also Batman. There needed to be a superhero that evened the field. Thus they created WONDER WOMAN. She could match supermans strength, his flying ability, could run as fast as FLASH, (and yes flash was the fastest MAN alive), and she was bullet proof. She could reflect bullets with her bracelets which were made out a thing called FEMINUM. Her magic lasso which when wrapped around someone would make them tell the truth, and it also would make them forget, depending on how she wanted to use it. The reason for this is because the creator of wonder woman was the same person who invented the polygraph machine, also better known as the lie detector. Wonder woman was also immortal, being an amazon, who were a tribe of woman who were extremely intelligent, (thus allowing her to match batmans detective skills), they also were very athletic, and also were very skilled warriors, which gave her the ability to kick some butt whenever she wanted. Wonder Woman was also the first female super hero created as a full grown woman. The female superheroes that came out later were not women, they had girl in their title. Like SUPERGIRL, WONDER GIRL, for example. So with all that she is, ever was, and ever will be, wonder woman is the ultimate superhero. She rocks, and I will always see her that way.
By the way, if anyone was wanting to be able to play as wonder woman in a video game that wasnt lame or dumb, you have to play JUSTICE LEAGUE HEROES, especially on xbox, since the graphics are cool and i just like that system better. You actually get to kick some major butt as wonder woman., and when you get to the end of the game, when its time to protect superman while he goes on his revenge kick, she does her little twirl and appears in this fabulous outfit that has wings, helmet, and a sword. No lasso. and its in all white. She looks almost like a Valkyrie. I really recommend this game to any and all wonder woman fans.

I've always hated it. In the comics and the animated series of Justice League, she flys independently, unlike in the 70's "Super Friends" cartoon. It is my understanding they want to use the invisible plane in the upcoming movie-UGH-and the movie "may be" campy. Sounds like another disappointment from Warner Bros. movie studios regarding Superheroes-except for Batman Begins. I digress, but, yes, she should not have the annoying plane-it's just plain stupid.
