I am not at all predjudice, however, the older I get the more this issue bothers me. I am Indian, and for some odd reason, the black slave thing is still an issue that gets brought up frequently, but the FACT that several Indians were standing right next to the blacks wearing the same shackles and chains, and also getting whipped, raped and their land and homes destroyed, no one ever talks about that. Whats even crazier is that where I grew up, the blacks and indians were predjudice to eachother. I just dont get it. My kids are forced to read about black history in school, but I'ver never heard about Native american month.

I'm mixed black and Indian and people with skin of color are barely even here, only by the grace of GOD, because if it would have been left up to the white man we would be extinct

So I'm I to understand that you have some resentment towards Blacks because several Indians were wearing the same shackles and chains and getting whipped, raped and their land and homes destroyed too. It seems to me your negative attitude towards blacks at least in this case is totally misdirected. You feel your kids are forced to read about Black history but you make no mention that your very on history was excluded from America history books by the same entity that discriminate against Blacks. You've been a victim of the white establishment and you resents other victims. I see why you have been bother all these years. You're nuts!

Nadia dear, You are so right. Be proud of your wonderful culture and pass it down to your children. Perhaps it is best that there is no Native Indian Month it would most likely be perverted. What you might do is go to your local library and ask for a First Borne Book Faire and have some of the elders of your tribe speak about how you respect nature and plant remedies and all the wonderful things that make you so wonderful. I agree with you and I am ashamed to admit that I grew up thinking good white man and bad Indian UNTIL I read the book, "Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee.' by D.Brown Good Luck and Best Always DK

Omg Nadia, you are sooooooo right.
I'm black and my family often talks about how nobody gives any concern (not even the black civil rights leaders) to true Native Americans.
An almost parallel situation is how many black men did not stand up for womens' rights.
Sometimes I think that everybody just wants to have 'one-up' on somebody. Nobody wants to finish last.

Well the history I read certainly acknowledges that indians got a raw deal whether or not we give them a day or a month.

Even if it did not, here in Canada, its sort of hard to avoid, ...
