What you are referring to is known as "lucid dreaming" and it is possible, but it takes practice. One thing to do is set your alarm clock in the middle of the night. Dreams are most likely to occur during REM sleep, which cycles about every 90 minutes or so. So set your alarm clock for about 3 hours after the time you usually fall asleep. After awhile you will find that you are waking yourself up in a dream. In that moment that you are awake, realize that you are dreaming and make a decision what you want to do in that dream before you go back to sleep. Then, allow yourself to fall asleep again. Most likely, you will go back into that same dream. With practice, this DOES work! I did this as an experiment in one of my undergrad psych courses and it took me several weeks, but I eventually was successful in entering into and sometimes controlling the dreams.
On the downside, you will be real tired in the morning!

Observing the Dream and Remembering better is possible. Prior to sleep, look at both of your hands and tell yourself three or four times, "when I'm dreaming I'll look at my hands and realize that I'm dreaming.....then I'll be able to better 'observe' the dream".
Control from the Conscious side is not possible. You could ask a question and the Unconscious could possibly answer it (try something simple at first). Unfortunately, the Unconscious will most likely answer in a not-straight-forward-way.
I suggest you have paper and pencil on the night stand, immediately upon waking write down the dream, don't get out of bed, write everything (think of it as a play....what is scene one, who are the players, what are the objects, what are the emotions, etc) and then ask yourself, "what is to be learned here?"
Cheers,

A shaman friend of mine said, fix your eyes on a scene in the dream, and then lift your hands up in front of your eyes so you can see them without losing contact with the image in the dream. If they look like your hands, then you have entered lucid dreaming, and may be able to do something fun.
I've never been that conscious in one of my dreams to try it, but neither is that a primary focus for me. Let us know how it turns out.

There are some psychiatric tricks to apply. One such prepare is finding by using photographs and listening to hint. attempt to sync the photographs and the song on your head. Then hear to the song jointly as you will mattress. This specially circumstances triggers/stimulates particular memory applications and you may journey a dream bearing on the image. There are different workouts to do to improve your opportunities of acquiring lucid desires. a nicely-liked workout (although no longer scientifically shown) is to take a place time in yoga.

Actually, everytime you wake up, you figure out you were just in a dream really. You wouldn't remember that you had the dream unless you had woken up, now would you?
