The best thing is for you to get on the Airport Express (which is for 1JD/ 1.4$ if you came via Royal Jordanian, and about 7$ if you came aboard other airline. (every 30 minutes during day and every 90 minutes during night).
The airport express will drop you off in an area called 7th circle, it's a 5 minute walk from a bus company called Trust "Thiqa" you can get a bus to Petra for 5JD/ 7$, they operate two trips/day. Also, a walking distance from a department store called Safeway to get all of your needs to camp in Petra,
