I jammed my finger playing football today, so i was wondering what the best response would've been: play through the pain, stop and wait, tug on it, ice, etc. All advice appreciated!

Put ice on it, stabilizes it using a splint or taping it to the finger next to it, don't play through the pain, I would suggest giving it a few days rest to see if it improves. If it's really painful, you should consider going to a doctor for x-rays to make sure it isn't broken.

Ice 20 minutes on every 2-3 hours for the first 24 hours. Make sure you do not apply the ice directly to your skin. This will help the swelling. If you do not have any allergies try some Motrin for the pain... Immobilize the finger until the pain and swelling go away. You may have broken the finger but unless the bone is really deformed or the bone broke threw the skin the doctor will only splint the finger... Hope this helps.

definitely try ice or a cold pack, maybe ibuprophen for the pain, (don't 'tug on it,') and see a doctor if there's not improvement in a couple of days.

Feel better & happy Thanksgiving!

I Wish him a fast recovery. Gingelly Oil or mustard oil massage gives fast relief. Answering R&S q.s does not injure, but this drastic climatic change i.e. too much cold might have troubled him.
