I don't know how good the prices in your area are, but right here in Miami we are also in the so-called "Buyer's Market" and the prices for crappy homes that need tons of repairs and are small are in the $300,000 and up!

And did I mentioned, most of them are in not-so-good neighborhoods where crime is soaring. So i hate to see what would be like if this was a "Seller's market"...

We just sold a home in Conroe, TX which is close to Houston. It is a buyer's market right now and tons of homes for sale. But, the homes down there are usually very reasonable compared to other states. For instance to build a home there compared to SD would be much cheaper in Texas due to the fact they have no basement, do not have to use real expensive windows due to the fact they do not get the horrible cold winters there like they do in SD. Consequently they do not have to use as much insulation....many things enter in to the cost of building. You can buy a really nice home there for $150,000.....that same home here would be $225,000. Be fore-warned though, what you save in that area they get you in property taxes. The taxes are almost double what you pay in South Dakota. Same way with house insurance. So its a wash in the end.
Someone above me said Houston was a s#% hole. I thought Houston was a OK place to be. Like any huge City there are the good and bad spots to be.

It's a buyers market right now... Don't get me wrong, you could still find neighborhoods with multi-million dollar homes, but, the market is just really slanted at this moment.
