My co workers and I have been trying to figure out what in the world this saying is talking about. I know it means you are stupid but WHY? What does your butt and a hole in the ground have to do with each other?? I've looked on the internet but can't find anything about it. Thanks :)

Grandfather said WW 1 they used to dig holes to defecate in while in the trenches. It was directed at someone who was so full of BS they couldn t keep their stories straight. Draw a similarity from "not knowing if they were coming or going" The phrase was "You don t know your a$$ from a hole in the ground" as both were full of Shiese.
