yeah but not for 30 people ,better get 20 potatoes or if they are small 30.
leave them to cook to pieces .
drain of the exess water, and add some milk then mash well untill it is creamy ad some salt ,a bit of ground nutmeg and a generous piece of butter
Mashed potatoes for a party of 30
just think ,one potatoe for one person
that is not a big portion for each, but the milk makes it bigger.

People really load up on Thanksgiving.....especially mashed potatoes. My Aunt makes a 10 pound bag for about 12 people...granite we eat early and go back for leftovers in the evening.....I would fix no less than 10 pounds......add salt to the water you are cooking them in, when they are finished (when you can stick a fork through them) drain, and add back to the pot and cover, to get any water out of them, then mash with milk and lots of butter! NO ONIONS!!!!! I have never heard of that before.. Good Luck!

No. 6 medium potatoes makes about 4 cups. 10 potatoes make 8 servings. You're going to need a lot of potatoes to make 30 servings. Maybe you should try a different potato recipe; one that will stretch to serve more ppl.

More than 30 cos you want some extra in case. It's usually about one potato per person so make 35 to be save. Dice some onions and add it in later, and cheese as well! Don't forget the salt and pepper.

Estimate 1/2 large potato per person.

DEPENDS ON THE SIZE OF THE POTATOS. HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU EXPECT TO SERVE? AVERAGE 2/3rds OF A POTATO PER SERVING. RUSSETS POTATOS ARE GENERALLY USED AND THEY AVERAGE IN SIZE. GET ALL POTATOS THE SAME SIZE OR CLOSE TO IT. MAKE SURE YOU USE MILK AND BUTTER FOR REALLY GOOD POTATOS.
YOU MIGHT CONSIDER SOME GARLIC. IF YOU CAN ASK THIS QUESTION ON A COMPUTER , THEN CHECK OUT "FOOD NETWORK" AND ENTER MASHED POTATOS AND SEE WHAT ANSWER YOU GET.
GOOD LUCK. PS. DON'T USE INSTANT!

You do need about one potato per person. Also, don't add onions. You want to make them so that most people enjoy them and I've never heard of adding onion. I use half and half and real butter, which makes them really rich and creamy.
