I have a cotten shirt that's too BIG. I was recommended by a friend to take it to the dry cleaners and alter it.

Do they actually do that?
How much would it cost roughly?

To 'alter' a shirt means to have it hemmed up or out for a better fit. You don't have to take it to a dry cleaner for that. Dry cleaners will just overcharge you. Find a seamstress, they're all over the place, just keep an open eye on the shops around the area you're bound to spot one. Of course the yellow pages would be a good source, too or just ask anyone over the age of thirty.

Not all dry cleaners alter clothes. But there are some. Check the yellow pages. check under alterations too. It should cost less than $10.
