Well, the story that they made up about finding the text of the so-called "Book of Mormon" was pretty obviously blended from several previously occult themes which had become popular and well-known at that time, so in a sense, yes. But it's not occult in the sense of still claiming to have secrets.

Occult means secret and therefore earned knowledge, such as a probationer of the Rosicrucian Order or a particular degree of the Masons.

Cult is more like it, considering that they condoned multiple wives, when the Bible states that one man and one woman would/should join together.

Wasn't it founded by some guy who got drunk had a hallucination about finding silver plates or something .Then he just couldn't remember next day were exactly it was. However he needed a good story to tell the wife so came up with,"Honey an angel came and took me .......... Something like that anyway.

No, it was the scheme of a farmer in New York. It's a money maker, and good for getting many wives and keeping them under control.
