Some teachers truly do care as well as many cops.
Cops are very busy with different types of issues. Not that teachers do not deal with important issues, but I am talking about regular life/death issues, armed robberies, violence, you know. Cops may actually care a lot, but what are they going to do and when are they going to find the time to do it?
Teachers are around the kids a lot more and have more of a responsibility toward the general well being of the kids. I think they all care.

It is part of a High School teachers duty to try and keep us on the right path of life. No to drugs and alcohol of course smoking in considered bad and is in the ring that the teachers preaches to us daily. Even hold speeches brought on to you from the police. It is a program called D,A,R,E. I am sure you have heard about it. As for the police not caring about students smoking they do but they have A lot of major crimes to fight example murders, missing children, drug bust, killing over something stupid, rapes etc. I hope this answers your question.

As a teacher, I care about any thing that my students do, especially if what they do will in some way harm them. When you spend as much time as we do with our kids, you cannot help but feel responsible, and not only for the subject we teach. My students are in their late teens and think they are so adult and responsible, but the fact is they need guidance and friendship from adults who are not their parents. I see my students 10 hours a week for eight months. That kind of time means I have to be heartless not to learn to care for these kids.

I'm not sure that statement applies to all teachers. I'm not a smoker myself, but I really think society in general has gone too far against smoking in recent years. Unless students make it my business, I really don't worry much about what they do outside of school. In school is another matter. It is clearly against school rules, and as a teacher I am responsible for enforcing those rules--whether I agree with them or not.

Cops don't get promotions for catching smoking. they more important things on their agenda like murders and things like that. it's the teachers job to worry about the kids and nothing else when at work. teachers only have so many rules to enforce smoking being a top offense along with fighting and the dress code skipping school and bad language.

Because teachers get to see kids grow up and they see the results of what someone who began smoking as a kid looks like 20 or 30 years down the line. Smoking wrinkles up the face, cuts down on physical endurance and patience, weakens teeth and bones, makes you less able to fight off diseases and infections, in addition to the known problems that it causes, like cancer. The stupidest arguement I heard a kid make for smoking was if they get cancer they'll sue the tobacco companies. HELLO the lawsuit was settled, full disclosure, and no one is being forced to start smoking or lied to about it being deadly. It DOES NOT make anyone look "cool", it says "LOSER". That is what your teachers are trying to tell you. It's a dirty, filthy, expensive habit. And to really convince you not to smoke, the only reason men like to see women smoke is they are thinking of putting something else in her mouth. Think about that when you see a guy watch a girl light up.

First, it is ALWAYS against school rules.
Second it is bad for you and your teachers do care. Its not that they are nosy, its just that life has taught them about the effects of smoking and they know how hard it is to quit once your start. Most kids do not try to sneak smoking in at home if its not allowed but they do try it at school.

Because the younger you are when you start smoking, the more damage you will do to yourself. It will cripple your lungs and make it hard to participate in sports. It lays the foundation for heart disease and cancer. On top of that, it makes you stink, gives you wrinkles too soon, and causes excess hair on your face. Is it worth it?
Save your own life. Dying from emphysema or lung cancer is a horrible lengthy way to die.

I'm in school to be a teacher and it's our job to care. Also we can't look over it for professional reasons. We could be held liable and lose our jobs if we look the other way
