PETA was criticized in 2005 when police discovered at least 80 animals had been left in dumpsters over the course of a month by two PETA employees. The employees approached the dumpster in a van registered to PETA and left behind 18 dead animals. Thirteen more were found inside the van. The animals had been killed by PETA employees after being taken by PETA from shelters in Northampton and Bertie counties. Officials from both counties said they were under the impression that the animals would be euthanized only if a home could not be found for them, and after being fully evaluated by a veterinarian. Both counties suspended their agreements with PETA after the incident.

Among the bodies in the dumpster were a cat and two of her kittens, given to PETA by veterinarian Patrick Proctor of Ahoskie Animal Hospital. According to Proctor, the two kittens were very adoptable, and he said the PETA employees claimed they would have no trouble finding homes for them. In an interview with CNN, Ingrid Newkirk said that Proctor — who himself carries out euthanasia on behalf of PETA — was not present when the kittens were removed and was therefore not in a position to know what PETA's employees had said. Newkirk added that it was unlikely the employees said they could find homes for the animals, given that the veterinarian's assistant handed the animals to PETA precisely because she knew homes could not be found. "If the veterinarian couldn't find homes for a few kittens and a cat, which is surprising, if they have clients coming in, then that's why they called us, because they know we don't have a magic wand either," Newkirk told CNN.

From what I know, PETA is not too bad. Yes, they seem radical, but you have to understand that they are attempting to change an entire culture of eating animals and animal abuse. Because they are trying to change a culture, they use methods that will get people's attention, like demonstrations, videos, etc.

The videos on PETA's website are obtained from under cover PETA investigators. PETA does not kill the animals. That would make no sense and be highly illogical.

It is alright to support them, but remember that every organization will have something about it that you don't like. They aren't perfect.

What I love about both liberals and conservatives is that they both like to ignore biology and nature when it suits their overt political agenda. Conservatives like Bush and his televangelists like to ignore global warming and evolution while liberals like PETA and the feminists like to shove vegetarianism down your throat and claim that getting an abortion is somehow "okay" when it's clear that abortion is an unnatural phenomenon that no other animal species indulges in.

I'll put it like this. Human beings are biologically designed to be omnivores. That's right. We're supposed to eat BOTH plants AND meat. By not eating meat, you are not fulfilling your biological obligation as an omnivorous organism. Therefore, you are committing a crime against nature same as any Republican who wants to drill for oil in Alaska. I'm not saying you should torture or abuse animals for God's sake. All I'm saying is that you vegetarians should realize that you're a LOT more than one of the bottom feeders on the food chain.

Oh yeah, and it wouldn't surprise me if PETA was responsible for abusing animals, given their wild tendencies.

PETA is a radical left wing group, and are capable of anything, and makyshark you are correct in stating we are part of the food chain, and are suppose to consum both plant and animal. With that being fact, we learn to drill for oil to improve our lives not to hurt the environment.

I cannot say if they are or not Chlarissa. I highly doubt it though, can you imagine the furor it would cause? Not to say they might not have some foaming at the mouth zealots, all organizations of any size have them, but it seems unlikely this could happen. While I admire most of their work, I think they sometimes shoot themselves in the foot by using heavy-handed tactics.

Alright i don't like it when a person abuses an animal, but PETA takes things to far, they sued a park for racing cockroaches, said it was "cruel"... but uhhh it's hard to tell, maybe they do kill and abuse animals maybe not....

Ridiculous. PETA is not killing animals.

Whether or not you agree with their conclusions, animal slaughter for food or fur, is a horrible process. Exposing that is hardly equal to the act itself.

Mankind has a seemingly unlimited capacity to be cruel to itself, so for many people animals don't even count.
