common sense. if you can tell me how or when God was created then I'll reconsider religon. As for now, scientists can tell me when the universe was created (6.5 Billion years ago) and how it was created (Big Bang).

Moral beliefs are not exclusive to religion or belief in god.
The majority of the 10 commandments are good rules to live by and when children are taught that by their parents, they'd know it, with or without religion. My moral beliefs are guided by my desire to live a life that I can be proud of... helping others, being honest.
Here are my rules for living:
1 Have no gods.
2 Don't worship stuff.
3 Be polite.
4 Take a day off once in a while.
5 Be nice to folks.
6 Don't kill people.
7 Don't fool around on your significant other.
8 Don't steal stuff.
9 Don't lie about stuff.
10 Don't be greedy.
See... not religious but they are good rules to live by anyway, right? See, morality isn't dictated by religion... they are dictated by the self and encouraged by the community.

As an Atheist, my principles are based upon doing that which is right. Right means not hurting, injuring, or otherwise harming any person or living thing unnecessarily, and doing whatever I can do to help friends and family in need.
I have to say I'm suspect of people who are only "good" because they think they'll get punished if they aren't. What will they do when they think no one's paying attention?

While I'm not an atheist, my girlfriend is. She bases her moral beliefs on common sense. She knows the difference between right and wrong. It's pretty obvious, you don't need the Bible or a preacher to tell you the difference...just a brain.

My moral foundation is very similar to the Christian's Golden Rule and the Buddhists' Karma.
I don't need a god to tell me to treat others the way I want to be treated.
I don't like to be stolen from, so I do not steal.
I don't like to be lied to, so I do not lie.
I'd like to see the human race advance so I try not to do things that prevent it from advancing.

Atheists are born with good souls and intelligence. They do not need to be scared into good behavior by imaginary beings with supernatural powers.
