Get either an HP, Toshiba, Sony, Apple, or Dell Computer. All other brands are useless.
Here's 5 computers from those brands that you should look at:
Dell XPS M1710 if you need a multimedia computer, $3459.00 only.
Toshiba Sattelite A110 if you need a cheap computer, $549.00 only. (I think)
HP Pavillion dv9000t series for gaming, $899.99 only.
Apple Macbok pro if you need lots of memory, $2,499 only.
Sony Vaio VGN-TX670P if you need an ultraportable laptop, $1,600 only.

U should tell two things, ur budget and r u going to buy from india or abroad. See quality wise Toshiba is best, followed by sony but they r expensive like hell (both of them spent high bucks on RnD so u may need to pay for that RnD too) I bought recently HP dv8216 4 80,000 rs. Its a big one but there were other series which were giving high end configuration, dont go for MAC as suggested cause running XP is never robust on MAC, though if can work on OS2 then u may have not asked the question :)

Go for the Macbook or Macbook pro from apple. You can buy a cheap program that allows you to run Windows XP as well as Mac OSX It is the best of both worlds! Plus Macs have fewer viruses than PCs. If you are a student apple offers some pretty decent discounts with a student ID.

Obviously Dear,
You should buy that of Dell company because its works brilliant.
Sony is also too good but it is too much costly and if it will get faulted, will not repair as well in India.

I SUGGEST YOU GO TO THE LOCAL LIBRARY AND CHECK CONSUMER REPORT MAGAZINE TO GET A TRUE IDEA AND GOOD SUMATION OF LAPTOPS AND COST. THIS IS ONE OF THE BETTER WAY OF EVAUATING PRICE, QUALITY AND THE HIGH AND LOW POINTS OF THE PRODUCT YOU ARE INTERESTED IN.

depend on what you will use it for. If heavy work the best is Sony, if only for daily staff, the cheapest one is your call...
