He appeared in my basement about a week ago. I don't know if he thinks we're his winter home, but he can't stay! I want to get him out without hurting him. Is there another way without using anything that's gonna make me gag like all those pesticides they sell.

IF it is a mole just leave the lights on a few days,, they live in the dark and cannot tolerate light. They also dont stay in houses, you probably have something else.. live traps are available for every size critter at your neighborhood farm store..and they will tell ya what bait to use to catch it.

Maybe that little poor mole found something to eat in your basement and went in. Just as the other answerer said, get a dustpan, scoop him up and carry him out. After that, I may suggest you to tidy up your basement a little bit. Moles use smell to get food and find direction. There maybe something for it to eat, usually bugs and other things. Make some shelves and try to reduce clutter in your basement. Good Luck!

I seriously doubt that it's a mole. Moles live in tunnels and have no reason to come in your house. It's probably a mouse or a rat. They like to come inside this time of year.... it's warmer in your house!

If this animal moves fast, it's one of the latter. Moles are pretty slow moving.

You could try one of those box type traps if you're afraid to kill the critter.

Sprinkle cayenne pepper around the base of each wall after taking him out. Are you certain that it is a mole? They live underground, and don't typically look for a winter home. I would search online for a picture to be sure!

Cayenne pepper will do the job to keep them out, as well as to chase them out if you sprinkle in area where he is living. I actually used it in their tunnels and moved them out quickly - doesn't last forever though.

Good luck.

You should see if there is anywhere you can borrow a trap, you can bait and set it. Check with your local conservation authority they might be able to help you or give you some advice on how to go about it.

Use the Christmas Vacation method. Trap him with a coat and smack him with a hammer!

A mole looks like a mouse with webbed feet, but it is blind. scoop him up with a dust pan and carry him out.

Give him 2 months' notice, and if he still won't leave, make him appear on Judge Judy, and sue him for harassment.
