8 days minimum is alot. I would go to the Doctor about it. They may suggest birth control pills for you to regulate your period. I would also eat more iron rich foods or take a supplement. We need the iron that time of the month.

Having your period for 8 days or even longer is not normal. Having dark blood that looks black or brown means that this fluid has sat in the uterus to long. Usually the blood will be bright red or pink in color. You need to make an appointment with an OB/Gyne doctor and have a pap smear done and most likely some blood work to check your hormone levels. This will be the only way your doctor will know what is wrong with you. Do not wait to long usually when you go right away to get help things can turn out better than waiting to see what happens. If you do not have a doctor then look one up in your yellow pages or ask a friend who their OB/Gyne doctor is... Good luck

Yes, normal. Not everyone is the same. The next time you go for a check up, tell the gyno. they will most likely just put you on birth control pills to help regulate your cycles a little. You should know that it takes a few years for your body to become a "normal" once you first start your period. You are just beginning puberty, so, just be patient, and don't be afraid to ask an adult Q's. Good luck

How old are you? Usually the blood is very dark because it's called old blood. Your uterus hasn't been shedding it's lining for very long, so it's thick and dark. If you think that 8 days is too long, go to a gyno to get it checked out. Also, ask your mom if there are any hereditay things you should know about.

birth control will shorten the length of your period... and everyone's period looks different. But it's normal that the blood is dark... don't worry.

My period sounds similar. It normally lasts about a week and my blood color is similar to yours. Your normal, everyone has a different type of cycle, so don't worry about it. You're fine :-)
