i play guitar but am a beginner. I want to be able to write songs. I've been writing lyrics but i don't know how to write music at all. so i need very specific instuctions on how to write music. that's why i need someone who has great experience. If you know any good web sites that can teach how to write music that would be a great help also.

Lyrics or guitar music?
For guitar, you can write out in tab (just search yahoo search or google.....or ultimate-guitar.net might have a tablature explination) which is easier than tring to learn sheet music.
As far as lyrics go, it depends on what subgenre/feel of rock music you're going for to gauge how long lines should be and rhyme structure.......for that, just listen to the music style you want to write in and see how the lyrics are set up to the tune. Then write some lyrics or edit ones you already have to fit the type of music you're going for.

Most rock songs are all based off of a common chord progression. This "rock" progression consists of just three chords too. The chords are the I, IV, and V chords. If you know a little bit about music you'll know that there are eight notes to a major scale. The I, IV and V chords correspond to the first, fourth and fifth notes of a scale. Say we have a C Scale, our notes would be C D E F G A B C. C is the first, F is the fourth, and G is the fifth. Using these in combination tends to create good sounding music! For an example, play : C F G F and just repeat that. That is what classic rock was based off of. Please go and create all the music you can, but don't just restrict yourself to the chords I've given you. Be creative and try different changes and new chords and just experiment until you find something you're pleased with. Hope this helps:)

Write lyrics about what you relate to as a person in day to day life, also not every line has to ryme with the next(people seem to make this mistake)I find the easiest think to right about is past relationships and hard things you go through in life.As for the guitar part make sure not to make your guitar playing to hard to sing with at same time.Start with a guitar riff that's very easy for you to play and practice singing or humming with it first.Humming can give you an idea of how you will want to sing the song.Good luck and remember practice makes perfect.

Sing a melody and try to match it with a guitar chord. Then it's a matter of matching up lyrics with chords. The hard part is thinking of a melody, can't teach that, just pure inspiration

Write from your heart, what you see, what you experience, and how you feel.
