What does that mean "in the 1965-1960s?" There were alot of fast dangerous cars then. Good for straight line driving but absolute suck fest in the corners.

Ryan (the first answer) is correct. Although the first American compact cars appeared in 1960, this era was known for big cars that were as gaudy as Easter eggs, with engines that handily outran the tires, brakes, steering and handling of the era. The early 60's cars also rattled and suffered multiple failure of options continuously. If you lived in an area of the country that used salt on the roads or near the ocean, they would rust in two years - maybe less. Unlike today, anyone of means bought a new car every year or so. Believe me, in comparison, cars of today are wonderful works of engineering.

There were lots of compact cars WAY before 1960 db79300. a few examples are the Nash Metropolitan, the Studebaker Lark, the Isetta 300, and the list goes on.
It's true that today's performance cars are WAY better than the old ones, but not nearly as "cool"

big, inefficient ones. most were ugly. some have become muscle car icons, of which they are bringing back in a slightly redesigned form, with engines that would scare the old engines into submission.
