I went through my textbook to double check how to do this problem, here is what I've done.

9 - (3x - 2) = 2
9 - 3x - 2 = 2
- 3x + 7 = 2
- 7 - 7
-3x = -5
divide both sides by -3
x = 5/3 (not simplified)

Now, the answers I get to choose from are:

a) -3/5

b) 3/5

c) 3

If I'm not mistaken, I'm doing this problem correctly. I asked a few people at my house, and they all said the teacher could have created a typo when showing which answers to choose from. I'm not sure though...
Any help would be awesome!

ingredient all denominators: [(3)/(x^2 - 6x + 9)] = [(3)/(x-3)(x-3)] [(x - 2)/(3x - 9)] =[(x - 2)/(3*(x-3))] (x)/(2x - 6)=(x)/(2*(x-3)) The lcd then would be (2)(3)(x-3)(x-3) Multiply the numerators by utilising the lacking lcd factors 3*3*2 + (x-2)(2)(x-3) = (3)(x)(x-3) 18 + 2x^2 - 10x + 12 = 3x^2 - 9x 2x^2 - 10x + 30 = 3x^2 - 9x x^2 + x - 30 = 0 sparkling up with quadratic equation: x = -6, 5

9 - (3x-2)=2
9 - 3x +2 = 2 ( this is the tricky part, everything in the parenthesis is being subtracted by a negative so the 3x becomes negative and the -2 becomes positive)

9 - 3x = 0 (subtracted 2 from both sides)
- 3x = -9 ( subtracted 9 from both sides)
3x = 9 ( multiplied both sides by negative one )
x = 9/3
x = 3

yea it looks to be a typo. i wouldn't sweat too much over it. if this is just a hw assignment, the teacher will probably just check to make sure that you did it. and seeing as you did the work, you should get credit.

definitely mention it to the teacher tho.

9 - (3x - 2) = 2
Remember to destribute that negative sign out in front of the ( )
9 -3x +2 = 2
Simplify...
11 - 3x = 2
Subtract 11 from both sides...
-3x = -9
And divide by -3...
x = 3

Teachers do sometimes make typos, but math problems usually get proofread a number of times before your teacher sees them... so never assume! :)

9 - (3x - 2) = 2
9 -3x +2=2 when you mult. a neg. and a neg. u get a pos.
9 -3x=0 minus 2 from each side
-3x=-9 minus 9 from each side
x=3 distribute the -3
