This seems extremely obvious. If you have a good looking girl, that's all you've got - someone who looks pretty. She might get drunk every night and pee her pants, make a fool out of you in public, or annoy the crap out of you but at least she's good looking I guess. But then again, how long will she be good looking? Most people start to head downhill looks wise, in their mid to late 20's. So you'd better hope that along with being pretty when she's young, she's also hardworking and disciplined enough to exercise a crap load and eat healthy in order to maintain her looks through adulthood.

There isn't anything inherently wrong with choosing a girlfriend based mostly on her appearance, especially if you are not thinking of marriage just yet.

I think it's a good idea to experience different kinds of relationships before settling down, and to be honest, I've dated a guy or two based on looks. The relationships didn't last, but I can't say I'm sorry. It was something I wanted to do.

Inner qualities are more important when you are thinking of a permanent relationship. At that point, you'll want someone who you feel good around, who you are comfortable with, who makes you happy. You'll want someone you respect, admire, and can count on when times are rough. You'll want more than a shallow physical relationship.

If you choose a girl soley on appearance, you may end up dating a spoiled brat who uses you, manipulates you, keeps you on edge, who may run off with someone else in a crisis.

So the real question you should be asking yourself is, what kind of relationship do I want right now? What do I want to give, and how do I want to feel? If you really feel strongly that you want to experience a relationship with someone very physically attractive regardless of what she's like inside, go for it! When you've gotten what you want out of it, you can always change your mind.

Of course, if you're REALLY lucky you might find someone appealing in both respects. Not all hot chicks are stupid and shallow. Some have beautiful souls, too.

Well, you don't sound like you have that great of a personality, so I say you should pick the hottest girl that will tolerate you since it sounds like you don't really care either way if she's a good person. And that way you don't torment some really nice girl. Go get 'em tiger!

think of her as a total attractiveness package. Her personality, values, intelligence and other attributes, as well as looks.

If you're not physically attracted to her... well, that's not good.

But another theory (professed by Albert Brooks in his incredible movie- 'Defending your Life') was that you should marry a woman who's just good looking enough to turn you on. Anything more just creates problems.

would this be a sex toy or a person? a, if she has an awful personality, you'll hate her, b, if you're only interested in her bc she's pretty, SHE will probably end up hating YOU. and she'll tell all her friends how awful she thinks you are, and you probably won't end up with another girlfriend for a while unless you move 50+ miles away!

You still have to be physically attracted to her, but if you can't hold a conversation with her... do you really want to spend time with her other than in bed?
