whether or not you could fix it depends on how handy you are.:)
If it only dries a little, maybe the duct is clogged, or the filter is.
if it's a gas model, it could be the ignitor is bad, you have to watch it in an operating sequence to verify, so you have to have the front or the cover off to see this.
If it's electric, could be a broken element or a bad wire.

What is it, gas or electric. No matter what: Check the vent tube, the first thing, then the filter, when was the last time you cleaned it. Then on an empty machine start it. If it doesn't come on either the thermocouple if it's a gas or the electric switch if electric. If it's electric check the fuses and the box, make sure everything is plugged in.
If you have to ask "can I fix it" believe me "you can't" hire someone to come in but let them know what type it is, gas or electric.
If you have a warranty call the company, or call the manufacture.

It is probably the heating element or a blown fuse. Find the brand name of your dryer and the model number (located on a metal plate on the back or side of the dryer), you can then go to the brand name web site and they will have a trouble shooting link.....try that, if it is the element or fuse you will be able to replace it yourself with their step by step detail. Hope that helps .......

if it is gas, it will be different from electric. Electric. If you are sure it is not heating. It is a heating coil that has burnt into. the are in the back. Some older ones have a panel with screws, you can take out to access the coils. One of them will be broken (you can see it) Take it with you to a parts store. Be sure to unplug the unit.

If there is no heat at all, there may be no easy fixes unless you are an accomplished doityourselfer. If there is some heat, check the lint trap, and also make sure the vent piping is clean.

See if there is a RESET button on the part that plugs into the wall. That should fix it. If not, get a new dryer.

When my dryer did that, I was lucky that my son knew right away it was the thermostat, He put in a new one and we were good to go, that was 20 years ago.So check your book that came with the dryer and see how much it cost and the diagram to put it in yourself.

make sure lint trap is totally clean
if it is gas dryer ... be sure pilot light is lit
if electric .... make sure heat is on proper heat setting (not fluff) ... if this still doesn't help
then heating element may need to be replaced,
if so probably best to just buy new dryer
