The draft is going to be introduced to congress tomorrow. We already have the back door draft, but the new draft is going to grab all the kids. When so many Americans even wonder why this war is happening, what is with this new draft? Also. 2 more countries plan to be invaded????

If this happens, then I may move to Mexico or Canada...Why does America want to fight so much? My share of the men have fought already-only to spend time with them-lots-to bring them back after they r home.

The Republicans and Conservatives have been whining so much about "getting the job done right" and really pumping up the military approach, yet, when someone says, "OK, that means, though, we'll have to have a draft", the weenies run scared. Remember also, this Congress is still Republican. It won't be controlled by Democrats until January. Wouldn't it be a good idea if only the kids of the people who vote a President in who sends us to war actually had to get drafted? There'd be a lot less Republican wars that way. Just FYI, here's what Rangel seems to be up to again:
Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., said Sunday he sees his idea as a way to deter politicians from launching wars.
"There's no question in my mind that this president and this administration would never have invaded Iraq, especially on the flimsy evidence that was presented to the Congress, if indeed we had a draft and members of Congress and the administration thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm's way," Rangel said.
Rangel, a veteran of the Korean War who has unsuccessfully sponsored legislation on conscription in the past, has said the all-volunteer military disproportionately puts the burden of war on minorities and lower-income families.

How old are you? You listened wrong - they will introduce to consider a draft after the first of the year. Drafts have been a part of America since it was formed in 1776. The "kids" are the same young adults who have demanded the right to vote, smoke & complain if they can not drink. They call themselves men - they can not be men & kids at the same time. Upon reading your question I will continue to trust the Cheifs of Staff 's opinions.
I pray the draft is not neccessary but your Democrats will be in office & can weigh in with their opinions. We are not "planning" to invade any other countries.
P.S. I hear Canada has lovely winters - enjoy them.

The Democrats have their first plan to fix Iraq, and its a draft??? This is utterly detestable, and yet, I am not worried about it. This Dem Senator from NY, Charles Range, has tried to pass draft legislation twice before, and both times it was struck down. I don't see any legitimate reason to think it will go through this third time.

Rangel has been trying for years. It certainly won't go anywhere during this lame duck session. Next Congress it will go farther, But I doubt if it will pass. If nothing else, it can be filibustered in the Senate or Bush can veto it. The top military leaders don't want it. They prefer an all volunteer force. I think we should give them what they want.

You are referring to Senator Rangel's bill?
Charles Rangel has been an outspoken critic of Mr. Bush. This is simply another one of his attempts to undermine the President.
Don't pack your bags for Mexico or Canada yet.

I am for a draft. No exemptions, no deferments. 18-45 year old men and women. Unless you are disabled. Depending on how disabled, you could still serve in a supportive roll. If you plan to move because of a draft, get to stepping!

Rangel introduced the draft measure before so that all "kids" would be drafted, including politician's kids. He felt that if politician's kids were in the military, there wouldn't be any war. maybe be has a point.

I bet you wish now that you could turn back time to Nov. 7 and reconsider your vote - this is only the beginning ........ welcome to the liberal agenda - it's not what you expected, but, then again, it never is - welcome anyway.
