Ok the Boyfriend and I just bought our very first Gingerbread House since we first moved in...so When should we put it together, and display it in our living room, and how long can it keep for in this enviroment, and will it still be edible after a long period of time? THANKS!

oh have a ball putting it together tonight! They are so fun! I made one a few years back. I'd put it in a box and save it for the next year. It lasted about four years, until we moved to Texas. It is just way to humid down there!! How Ever it isn't edible after the first month. It will keep to look at but not to eat. Have fun!!

It should last a very long time. So go ahead and put it together.
They're not very good to eat anyway, too dry. Just bake gingerbread cookies and eat them while you enjoy the gingerbread house as decoration.
I have a confession. Last year, an aunt gave my grandchildren a gingerbread house kit for Christmas. I helped them put it together, but when we were ready to put on the roof, I discovered that I had mistakenly used the roof panels for the sides. I had to take it apart. I was afraid we wouldn't have enough of the icing in the kit to re-do everything, so I used hot glue to re assemble the house part. Then we used the rest of the icing to finish the decorating. It worked out fine, but we certainly didn't get to eat that one!
In Asheville, NC, at the Grove Park Inn, there is a massive gingerbread house competition every year. HGTV always has a special on it. There are some incredible gingerbread houses to be seen if you are near this area.

It'll last a really long time because it's so dry. It's probably not going to mold as long as it's not too humid in your house.

It will get stale however, so it'll be a show piece, you won't want to eat it.

You can make it now and leave it until Christmas.

After a while, don't eat it. Trust me. I have experience.
