I have about 500 sq feet of 21/4 wide and 3/4inch thick oak flooring ready to sand before finishing and need to know the best way to sand it for a non professional. Once before I rented a drum sander and the result was horrible so needless to say I need a viable option. Please help.

They rent disc sanders that are more forgiveing. I finished six rooms in a historic house with a 1/4 sheet hand sander. started with 40 grit sand paper and move up to 120 and 200 grit. It went surprising fast with no nasty surprises. I would think new flooring would be a breeze. It took about two hours to do 200 sq ft.

A disk sander and your going to need more time then a week-end. Learn to use it in an area that doesn't show that much and be careful. It's much better then a drum sander, they're for edging. Good luck.
