think of it as a five speed transmission with two shifter buttons,one on the top and one on the side,these buttons control air shifters
the side one goes down and the top one goes back,you shift 1,2,3,4,5 as normal then you move the side button up and shift back to 2 or 6 ,then shift top button forward,this is 7,
shift to the 3 position and move the top button back=8
move button forward=9,4 position is 10 and 11 ,the 5 position is 12 with the button back and 13 with the button forward

Well, let's see here 13 speed OK it's an H pattern with a low range and a high range so each point of the H is one gear ( the first four gears can't be split in you're low range) so you up shift press the fuel pedal till the rpm rev up to around 15 or 16 when you shift the rpm will drop 100 rpm a second so to shift to Second you have dropped two Seconds or 200 rpm that's roughly the target you hit or ggggrrrrrrrriiiinnnnddddiing will occur now on the clutch the only gear you fully engage ( clutch brake)press to the floor is first the rest of the climb is touching the clutch not to deep!! Damage may occur when you finally hit forth gear Now you flip to ? High range then you have another H pattern which is over the first so forth to fifth and fifth( whole gear) is in the first gear position get that? I'll finish this off in the future

A 13 speed shifter has a three position switch on the gear shifter. You use the standard H pattern for the gears. With the switch in the back position; You shift 1,2,3,4. On your way back to the 1 position you move the switch to the middle position, this is 5. Leaving the gear alone, you move the switch forward and then push in the clutch and remove the fuel, push in the clutch again while applying fuel, this is 6. To go to 7, push in the clutch and place the gear shift in the center position while moving the switch to the center, push in the clutch again, moving the gear shift to position 2 releasing the clutch and applying the fuel once more. Repeat the sequence above stated for 5 to 6 to get to 8. Re-read above for 2 to 3 to get to 9 and 10, and for 11 and 12- re-read from 3 to 4. Actually you have a total of 17 gears with this transmission: (ultra Low, +low used for snow and sand) and normal gearing for the road which are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 which equal 14 forward gears and 3 in reverse, (ultra low, low and high). Sounds confusing and it does take some practice. When you become really good at your timing; You can forget about the clutch and change gears with just the fuel pedal,(called 'dead-sticking'). Unlike a car, the truck has an unsincreagnized (sp-oops :-)) transmission. Good Luck. Practice makes Perfect. Happy Holidays to you and yours!!!

Just picture the Letter (H)
That is the basic. except for the Reverse, and granny gear..
The first 5 gears, you use for taking off. Need not use the first gear to take off unless you have a heavy load. Called the granny gear.
It 's basically using the letter H pattern Starting in 2nd ,in the low gears, run through the first 5, Flick switch to the high gears,go to 6th, flick the other switch, which is used like a half gear, which will be in 7, Same switch take it down, move down to 8 , flick the switch / overdrive into 9th, and so on.
