When someone says "he's suffering from alpha male syndrome" they are refering to a man that has to be the best of the pack, head of the herd, number one guy, narsacistic, I am the leader and noone can do better than me....type of guy. It's a reference to the animal world in which the males in a herd, or pack, fight to win the right as the "alpha male" who is the lead male of the pack, noone crosses him once he's achieved this position, until the time that his successor kills him.

In social animals, the alpha male or alpha female is the individual in the community whom the others follow and defer to. Where one male and one female fulfill this role, they are referred to as the alpha pair. The syndrome is always having to be "leader of the pack" in a social group

Wanting to be in control and be the head, the boss, or the "protector" of everyone, mostly the female. Not necessarily bad though- you just feel like the responisbility is put on you because you are male. However, it is not so, because the sexes are equal and neither is better than the rest.
