I'm really interested in hostessing in Japan, but there are a few things that concern me I'd like some answers to. First, is it safe? I know we've all heard about Lucy Blackman, but in all actuality, is it safe for a young caucasion woman to work in Tokyo? I don't necessarily want to go alone, can you suggest a place I might find other women interested in this line of work? Also, I recently had foot surgery, and while I can stand in short 3inch heels for short periods, I have trouble walking long distances. Will they have any leniency on that? Will I be forced to work on my feet? And one more, what is the pay like?

Every foreigner, who ask this kind of question, is seen they don't want to listen to the advice.
You ppl seem to giving a broad interpretation to a meager hope.
Of course there are some foreign women who work happily in Japan.
But think. If you American or from Europe, how do you get the working permit? If the club hired you, it would be illegal.
(The caucasian women from the former Soviet nations have that permit. Because their agency (brokers) in their country have took the entertainment visa. And this visa is not issued to the nationals of advanced countries widely. )

I don't say the possibility is zero. However, the services Japanese customers (some foreign men as well) expect you are different from the Japanese girls. Japanese men know each clubs' system and rules (eg. chatting only, able to touch, able to ask xxx, etc).
But the place for the foreign hostess, it looks lawless area sometime.
So that nobody can say it is safe.

on a similar time as something is conceivable, not each thing is realistically in all probability and for a non-jap to alter right into a stewardess for a jap airline the probability is very low. you may't bypass to Japan to persist with for a job. It would not artwork that way. Then there is likewise the question of in spite of in case you talk jap - do you? If not, your probability is next to 0.

Let me just say that many - or most - ex-hostesses leave the business feeling nothing but hostility for their former employers, and disgust for their former punters.

Is it safe? It would depend on how much pressure your boss put on you to 'date' your clients, and how decently the clients behaved once they got you alone ... Plus, some bosses put pressure on the hostesses to do more than 'date' the punters. That sort of boss will be totally unscrupulous in every way.

As for your feet, I gather that hostesses spend most of their working life sitting with boring old men and pretending to be interested in what the men say. But I think mobility would be useful for escaping when a 'date' goes wrong...!

Please do not choose this line of work. It can be dangerous and risky. The Japan Times ran a series of articles on the underworld of hostessing and the links to organizaed crime. Many gaijin women end up abused and forced into work that crosses one's moral values. You can be tricked into coming and then the big switcheroo on you will occur.

The only time a hostess stands up is when they sing karoke, or see a customer off for the evening.

Why do you choose to degrade yourself in this way? Why not get an education and get a career that you can be proud of?

By the way, most of the clubs are ran by local mafia groups. Do you really think they are going to care about a dumb white American girl?!

There are so many possible careers for you in Japan. Don't go into hostessing. Try something else.
