ok so i was watching parent trap and the two sisters are by the same actress and they show them both talking in a scene, how do they do that?

they record one shot with the actor on on side talking to a script reader to which you wont see, then they record another of the same scene but with the same actor on the opposite side taking place of the script reader and a reader fills the position from the first scene, then they use trick photography and mix it all together. viola!!!

They film the girl being the one character and then film her being the other and overlap them. So it's a lot of work for the actress because she has to be on cue for a lot of things so it doesn't look like she's posing her sister in the eye or walking through things. I know that when Lindsey Lohan did it they had earphones in her ears and someone was talking the dialect of her twin to her that way she would be on mark for her lines.

I think it is called a "split screen or blue screen" and she does one part and then the other .

Somehow they splice it together.

They have stand-ins when you can't see their face, or they can use the green screen.
