I agree with you. It was her religion and her love for Henry the Eight that kept her going. She always felt he would come back to her. Henry did treat her very bad. All that just to get a male heir to succeed him.

It is true Catherine was Henry's first wife. She refused to agree to a divorce on the grounds of her religion. She was an extremely pious woman, but she was also a princess before her marriage. She originally married Henry's older brother, Arthur, with the knowledge she would one day be queen. After Arthur died, she married Henry, still knowing she would be queen. It is my belief that although her religion and her love for the king played a part in her refusal for a divorce, the giving up of her status and power as Queen of England probably played a more major role.

No, for the times he lived in, and for the person he was, Henry dealt very kindly with Catherine of Aragon. She could not give him a son, and he needed a son to ensure the succession. The Catholic church would not allow him to annul the marriage (even though Henry had viable grounds -- or at least, a supportable case) so rather than have Catherine killed, he put her aside and created the Church of England, putting aside the Catholic Church, rather than his wife. That's a pretty big concession!
There are dozens of books about this lovely lady, which means that millions of people have heard of her. And of course, to answer your question, any school child in England, or anyone who has ever been a school child in England, knows of her too.

Just remember that people become 'mythical' in their attributes...she may have been pious but I'm sure she had her faults too. There is and has never been a perfect person (man or woman). Don't fall in love with the past. Start looking for someone who is alive NOW (as in this century). She may not be Catherine of Aragon but you'll love her all the same!

Catherine of Aragon was an ancestor of mine. Henry divorced her so he could marry Anne Boleylyn, another ancestor of mine.
It was very cruel, the way Henry treated her.

I've heard of her.
It was her that the Pope refused to divorce and 'caused Henry VIII to form the Church of England and take Catholism away from the English (officially atleast).

Her daughter was "Bloody Mary". How did a lady of such character manage to produce a woman who didn't find it at all against her devout Christian beliefs to kill people because they didn't belong to the Roman Catholic Church.

At the risk of sounding antagonistic, are you just showing off that you know who Catherine of Aragon is? Anyone who went to comprehensive/high school in the UK would have heard of her...we're taught world history...so that would be tens of millions of people would have heard of her.
sorry.
