Don't listen to the drama queens that answered above me. Snakes make GREAT pets. I've been keeping snakes since I was 17 and they are fantastic. They give me hours of pleasure. If you want a snake, go for it! Just be sure to research the animal well, snakes are exotics and as such have specific care requirements. I would recommend you research the corn snake. :)

Snakes have made for excellent pets in several households, so yes they make for good pets. Whether a snake would be good pet for you or not is entirely up to what you want.

Initially a pet snake is difficult, in that it must be tamed when it's a baby, it's first meal can be a trying experience, and having its cage set up just right takes some time. Once you have the baby settled down and eating, and the cage's humidity, temperature, substrate, and various other things set up appropriately, the snake becomes incredibly easy to maintain.

Most snakes will eat every few days to once a month. If they choose to refuse to eat, they can safely go without food for almost a year. Fresh water and bedding should be provided at regular intervals. Handling on a daily basis is recommended to ensure proper exercise and helps in the taming process. Only on rare occasions should a pet snake not be handled such as a day or so after a meal, during shedding, while feeding, and when the snake is sick or injured.

If this isn't considered too much of a burden then a pet snake may work for you. Some snakes rarely reach over 2 or 3 feet while others may reach 30 ft. A typical snake can live from 15 to 40 years, depending on species. The norm for most commonly bought snakes is about 5-6 ft, lifespan of about 20 years, and usually a timid or docile temperament. Almost all baby snakes are "nippy" (they do start out as food for other animals when they're little, so it's understandable that movement scares them easily). Snakes learn to trust their owners and when bites do occur it's because of a mistake on the owner or snake's part. Either the owner scared the snake (or someone came by and scared the snake) or the snake missed the mouse and got the owner by accident. The good news is that most accidental bites can be avoided by a little commonsense.

The average person cannot purchase a venomous snake, and it usually isn't recommended for anyone to purchase a venomous snake as a pet. Most collectors keep venomous snakes in very sophisticated cages that keep the owner and snake safely separated during feeding and cleaning. The snakes are rarely ever taken out of the cage, and it's unlikely that the snake will ever be handled.

A snake is like any other pet. If the work involved is less than the enjoyment you receive from the snake's presence, then it's the pet for you.

I have a pet snake. He's freakin awesome! but if a snake is a good pet for you or not depends on what you like, for example i prefer reptiles to mamals because they're more independent and in some ways require less care and are wayyyy less annoying. for example, I can't stand my moms cat, it's always in the way and wants you to pet it or play which i hate where as my snake is never in my way and hardly ever annyoing. =)

My son (22) loves his snake pets. He has liked snakes since he was a little boy.
Personally, I prefer my fluffy little Yorkies.

a snake as a pet?! are u a snake lover? if u are then yes but they are poisonous and can kill u. and it isn't everyone that can tame a snake. i'll never get a snake for a pet but u could get a non poisonous one and let it dangle from your neck all day long.

That depends on what ;you call a goos pet.
they are easy to care for , so if little responsibility is up your alley then yes. unlike other pets they don't require feeding every day and incase you wanted to take a trip u wouldn't have to board it.

So yes, i think they are wonderful pets.
But so your research before u buy.
