In the end, when Mel Gibson is laying on some table.....what exactly is being done to him? And how do we know? They only show his face and the pain he's in.

He is being disemboweled. We know this because the midgets act it out for the crowd before they bring Wallace in. The midget pull the rope like it is the small intestines. This was a common torture practice which left the victim alive and in pain for a while so that a confession could still be gotten.

I just seen this movie with my husband two nights ago and we were arguing over what was really going on.. I think that they were cutting off his limbs, his arms legs and his head because the narrator was saying after they killed him his limbs were sent to the four corners of scotland (I think) or something. Not sure.

What was going on at end of the movie was this. He was literally being torn apart.......this arms and legs each had a rope attached to them and little by little the executioner tightened those ropes pulling him all directions until at the end the final blow came all the ropes were pulled at once as fast as they could be pulled and his body was ripped apart........it was torture followed by death.

I hate that movie it is an insult to the Scottish heritage and to a very well known legend.

The last part when he yelled FREEDOM! He was being excecuted for going against the kingdom or fighting or something like that i don't really remeber i seem it a long long long time ago. he said" you may take our lives but they'll never take our freedom." meaning they were fighting for freedom. =D

he is being disenboweled---they are ripping his bowels/intestines out as was common practise in that place and time of history
