Pull it through straws with a crochet hook, then rubber-band the ends so it stays. It's easier to do if you cut the straws in 1/2 first. Way extravagent!
Another one to try if your hair is long enough - put a Nerf ball on top of your head, then gather your hair up and over it, banding it at the top, then curling and fluffing the ends. The hair hides the ball. You use a Nerf ball because it's light. The look is kind of like Dr. Seuss meets Barbarella!

I've seen some good ones...love crazy hair day. My niece used a hanger stretched out across her head and made braids around it so she looked like Pippi Longstocking with her braids sticking straight out from both sides of her head.
Another girl used cds...and tied her hair in several ponytails with cds through the holes.
My daughter was really cute last year she bought all these stir sticks with martini glasses and other jingly things hanging off them...then teased her massive hair all crazy and hair sprayed it and had these sticking out from all over. Cant remember what else but I'm sure you'll find some good ideas.

Wet your hair and gel it the night before, then go to sleep like that (put a towel on your pillow to keep from messing it up). However it ends up in the morning, you wear it that way. The shorter your hair is the funnier it gets. When my sister was in high school, one of the girls in her 1st period class did this, and got first prize for the goofiest hairdo!

My friend tied passifiers, crayons, ribbons, and a few other things in her daughters hair one time.

My son gave himself a mohawk and sprayed the wash out colored spray in his hair!!
