Or are some people just doomed to an unsatisfying existence? I guess what I mean is, in general, do you think we all get what we deserve?

Do you think a child who gets struck in the head with a stray bullet during a drive by shooting got what they deserve? Do you think my father who got his whole body burned up when a car hit him of a cliff during a dust storm got what he deserved?

Wake up already. Maybe you were raised in the suburbs with loving parents with money, but your question is ridiculous.

Some people may think my answer is too "religious", but I believe that we only get what we "deserve" after we die, if we have tried to live good lives, meaning we have tried to be good to the people around us, to not hurt others, ourselves, or the Earth, we will go to Heaven. Obviously, no human being is perfect, by our nature. We all make mistakes...as far as getting what we want or deserve out of life, well, some people definitely seem to have an easier or better earthly existence than other...I have seen lots of really good people who have had some bad things happen to them, and vice versa...so I guess my overall answer would be that I'm not sure...all we can do is try to be good people and hope for the best, and we have God to help us when "bad" things happen, and I believe we have Him to thank when good things happen.

even those who give more than a reasonable effort can fail. sometimes they have lofty ambitions that their talents can not possibly make happen. and some people have a really nifty ability to place themselves in situations that can hinder their efforts. and then there are those that look at the world through glasses that only allow them to see the worst in everything.. and those people are doomed to live a gloomy and unsatisfying existence.

There are things that normal people can't just shrug off. Who will you tell they aren't making a reasonable effort? Someone afflicted with a disease? An abandoned spouse? A widowed spouse? Someone who's been abused? A person with chronic depression? Will you tell all these people that they're getting what they deserve because they simply haven't made the effort to rise above it? Or that maybe they deserved what happened to them?

► At age five my parents fled from Cuba with 4 kids. They were millionaires. Went to Puerto Rico as political refugees, we would have been killed because we were against the government. We left with THE CLOTHES ON THEIR BACKS. They worked 2 Jobs, their degrees were not accepted in the states, they redid their universities careers. Both my parents went to college 2 times for the same degree. My mom a Pharmacist, Father Engineer. They put us through the best schools, didn't squander the money they made, send all four of us to college and we all became very very well to do again. IF YOU GIVE UP THE UP GIVES UP ON YOU. ♥

Well, what we want, and what we deserve are very different,
What we want, unless the list is a zillion miles long, can be achieved if it is a reasonable desire.

what we deserve, is more like cause and effect, or you reap what you soe..

some people are evil, and seem to get things that maybe seem unjust, and some who are kind, and deserving, get ------over.
it is hard to draw a concrete decision,, as i type this, it gets my mind a going,,,

i think in the "big scale of things", KARMA, OR JUDGEMENT, OR JUST EVEN NATURE WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE THE LAST WORD, not that we will be evolved enough to comprehend all that,,
and please understand, this is my brain, who is responding to your question, and i am just a tiny part in the big plan,, and good luck with your answer,
i wonder, if you have an opinion on this, or you are just collecting opinions on this,,

People do not , necessarily get what they want. certainly they get what they deserve. If what they wanted fell in the category of their "Deserving List" they are happy. But they make the mistake of boasting that they wanted it and they worked for it and they got it.

The catch is who is to decide what one deserves. We , all, deserve the best. But, why only some get it and not the others? This is where the easterners fall on Karma Theory. It simply says that if a man sows an apple seed he will get only apple and not mango. If he has done good deed in the past he would get what he deserves for that good act. And also the other wat about.

If others have any better explanation for this it would be nice

Hmm.. well.. logically yes.. but we have to look at the matter that there are many outside influences that are beyond our control. Sometimes, people receive something without doing anything and vice versa. There's also the fact that the goals that they set for themself is kind of over ambitious sometimes to be achieve. So yeah, there's alot of things that are involve before we could say whether we could get what we want.

I believe in something that transcend our efforts and will...you can call that destiny I call God's will...
We humans are up to achieve many goals, but there will be always some that we cannot reach...some people has less opportunities to achieve their objectives that others...and that's the way life is no matter what you do no matter how hard you try, somethings are just not meant to happen...
I am not determinist, not at all, but I am just saying somethings just not happen...
But otherwise no matter if our dreams are going to be true or not we need to try...some philosopher says that we cannot succeed in everything we try but if we don't try we will not succeed in anything at all...

life is what you make it. anyone that wants something is going to have to work at it. some things require more work than others but it is possible to get what you want out of your life. now as in people in third world countries, some of them are domed to die early cause of disease and stuff like that but anywhere else life is what you make it and if its crappy and unsatisfying than its because you made it that way. but it is never too late to turn around
