Ortiz is always brought up, same as last year.
Problem is that he is the DH.
Oh yea, lets not forget...
Jeter had a better year.
With one of the highest BA in the AL and a gold glove...
He didn't have the RBIs like Ortiz, but his job in the line up is to get on base (which he did) For the #2 guy, his RBIs aren't shabby either.
And unlike Ortiz, his team was the #1 team in the MLB (excluding the postseason)
For the people that say he didn't deserve his gold glove, teams like Boston with Gonzalez had less errors... true.
But the beauty of Jeter is that he MAKES plays.
He gets outs when it would've been scored a hit if he didn't stop it.
For MVP, you have to be an all around great player. You have to be a runner, a fielder, and a hitter.
A pitcher and a DH have to be really extraordinary to be MVP, esp. the DH because everyone bats.
Last year, Ortiz and Rodriguez had virtually the same numbers, but Rodriguez had the fielding advantage.
Ortiz is a great player, but unless he has a 70+ HR 100+ Win season with another ring, he probably won't get the MVP honors unless he shows great defense.

I think he should. I don't think Big Papi deserves an MVP. People say it's not his fault he's a DH, but in a way it is. He's clearly not the best option to play in the field...so he's a good hitter, not a good complete player. Big Papi is great for the game and has an awesome swing and habit of coming through in the clutch, but, how many errors does he make if he plays first base? I really don't know. But the simple fact is, his coach doesn't feel comfortable enough with him to put him out there and find out. That says alot.
Other possibilities are Morneau and Mauer from Minnesota, but, I would give it to Jeter because without him the Yankees aren't even in the playoffs this year.

Probably, it will most likely be Jeter winning and Big Papi coming in second again. Being a Red Sox fan I understand that many people who vote for MVP look at everything, and since Jeter is an everyday player unlike Papi who is a DH and occasionally plays first, votes will most likely go more Jeter's way. Even though David Ortiz is the best clutch hitter in the game when it matters, batted .287, 54 HR's, 137 RBI's, scored 115 runs and had 7 walk offs this year, but who is counting.

Okay Ortiz does not play defense, well maybe 10 times a year for interleague games or here and there, so why is everyone touting him? What about Santana, or Justin Morneau or Ivan Rodriguez well just my opinion.

Chances are good.
As long as a white sox player (none of them deserve it) doesnt get it, I'm happy.
