Come on, be honest, when you're doing work on a vehicle that's still under warranty, are you inclined to do a half-assed job because you're not being paid for it? Just curious : )

You must have been burned by somebody at some time. No we do not do a halfassed job because if we do and the car comes back we have to do it again for free. We get paid for it the first time, but if there is a problem it comes back to the one who attempted to fix it the first time and THEN we do it for free! I cant really understand why everyone thinks mechanics are such bad people, we work hard and get paid like every body else. we are professionals but alot like dr's. the only difference is their patients can tell them where it hurts our patients can't talk.

NO. I do not work for any dealership because I care about the consumer. Do I lose money? YES, but that is not why I became a mechanic. Any time I am asked to work on a car that is still under warranty, I have the owner take it back to the dealership and have it fixed for free. If there is still a problem, I will call them to get it done properly.

I am a Ford Certified Tech. and no i do not do a half ass job at all when warranty work is being done. Ford pays us for our time (which sucks) but if the vehicle is not fixed right the first time it will hurt the dealership scores, and also cause us to lose money. I know some techs who do but honestly i do not. My question is what is a half ass repair, what u are replacing is either gonna work or not so.....

yes, warranty jobs are the most half ass. the reason being that the mecanics gets paid on someyhing called flat rate, this means that someone from yhe car co. peformed the task and timed it, that is how long the tech gets paid for no matter how long it takes. normal shops get paid by the hour even if they have to take a little extra time. my teacher told me how they used to change head gaskets without removing the intake on warranty jobs and then he laughed, so you be the judge.

It's true, if you're working at a dealership your job is to get warrenty work out as fast as possible. The first time the work is performed the factory pays the dealer, but get it done right the first time. when it comes back the dealer and the technician lose money. So to answer your question, it doesn't benefit anyone to "half-ass" the job. Hope this helps.

Actually, I'm not sure if most mechanics working on the car are aware that it is under warranty - and they'll still be paid for it anyhow.

My guess would be that probably not. Let's hope so.

the warranty is paid through a seperate company. Kind of like insurance. So they are still getting paid.

some people, yes, but i dont, because it maybe still under warranty, but u need to try your best in all occasions, trust means alot to people, u show them u know what your doing, do it right, and they will come back to you, "honesty is the best policy". i try my best with or without warranty for the cheapest price possible, but thats just me.
