Samuel Morey invented the first car using the internal combustion "gas or vapor" engine in 1826. This was in Philadelphia. He mounted his engine onto a buckboard. When he tried to get on he tripped and it took off by itself and ran across Market Street and crashed in a brickyard. You may verify this with an internet search.

This beats out Karl Benz 1885 patent.

Ford did not invent the assembly line, Ransom E. Olds invented the assembly line. Check out this link:

French engineer and mechanic Nicolas Joseph Cugnot, in 1769, invented the first self-propelled road vehicle. It was a steam-powered a military tractor used by the French Army to haul artillery at a speed of 2.5 mph and had only three wheels.

In 1770, Cugnot built a steam-powered tricycle that carried four passengers. Incidentally, he is also the first person to get into a motor vehicle accident, when in 1771 he drove one of his road vehicles into a stone wall.

Henry Ford ( an inventor, holding 161 US patents) invented the assembly line.
