i just got signed up with vonage on Tuesday and every thing went fine. but i needed to forward some ports it worked fine for a couple of days. but now i am losing almost 3megs in download speed. but i get it back if i unplug my router and just run my modem. could this be the ports i forwarded or do i have a bad? router

You could have a hitchhiker or two. Did you set up a firewall and either WEP or WPA? If good security doesn't discourage hitch hiking, try setting your router filters up to recognize ONLY the MAC addresses of the equipment you have in your LAN.

i think its probably because of the port forwarding you did. you could reset the router to its original factory setting and try again.

usually using a router slows your connection a little bit that's the reason, add to this your internet connection may me slower at that time check it for a whole week then decide.

it's coming from a misconfiguration in your router, there shouldn't be anything wrong with the router itself if it was working fine.
